THELMA WATKINS M.rs. Thelma Carroll Watkins, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Carroll of Timmonsville, S'. C., and for 25 years a high school Jjk4*her of English at Belton, S. /passed away Thursday morn ing at a hospital in Greenville, S. C. where she was taken several days ago following a stroke while visiting friends in Elberton, Ga. Mrs. Watkins had been in de clining health for several years. She was a frequent guest in the home of her sister, Mrs. R. H. Brady, and had made many friends in the community. While faoulty advisor to the student newspaper at Belton it took first place a number of times in state wide contests. • Survivors include Miss Ruth Car roll, instructor in Latin, Columbia, S. C.; S. S. Carroll Jr., Florence; and Mrs. Br.ady of Tryon. Funeral services will probably be held at Belton on Saturday. J. R. GRIGGS fJpKrs. J. S. Kell has received rews from Mrs. Tom C. Griggs of the death of Mrs. Jerry A. Griggs on Monday night at 909 California Ave., Avalon, Pittsburgh 2. Pa. She formerly lived in Tryon. The Eastern Star will meet Monday night at 8 o’clock for election of a new Worthy Matron to succeed Mrs. Clyde Lancaster who has moved to Georgia. Tryon Theatre is showing “The Wild North” Sunday and Monday starring Stewart Granger and Wendel Corey.
